CBA Repertoire Series #14: Excerpt from Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs

We would like to share with you another clip from our full-length ballet “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs”!

This scene depicts the 7 dwarfs meeting Snow White for the 1st time.

It was such a special experience coaching the girls in acting and mime. Technique takes time to build, and so is the courage to show your personality.

Thank you Ms Xia for finding the right character for each girl and guiding them through this fun journey!

CBA Repertoire Series #13: Excerpts from Don Quixote

This dance was presented at CBA’s 2nd Year End Performance in 2014. It was a joint performance between our Intermediate-Advanced students and Adult Ballet students.

It was not easy for our Adult students to balance between their work and all the rehearsals, but they have done a great job and we were so happy to see many of them experiencing the stage for the first time!

Thank you to Ms Liu Xiao Mi for the beautiful choreography.

CBA Repertoire Series #12: Excerpt from Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs

Today’s clip is an excerpt from our 2016 Year End Performance “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs”, a self-choreographed full-length ballet. The scene shows young Snow White playing in the garden with the flowers and ladybirds.

It was challenging for our little flowers and ladybirds, who were between ages 3.5 to 5, to remember their movements, music and formations at such a young age, and the girls put in a lot of effort into practising their item. 👏

It took a lot of patience, love and skill on our teachers’ part as well, and it was very rewarding for them to see the girls enjoying the time on stage.

Thank you to our teachers Ms Ma Yu, Ms Rebekah, Ms Tina, Mrs Lee and Ms Haiying Xia for their dedication.

*The little ones were very well-behaved at the wings and backstage, sitting quietly in rows while waiting for their turn. This is the discipline that our teachers have instilled in them during their regular dance lessons.

CBA Repertoire Series #11: Excerpts from La Bayadere

La Bayadère is a classical ballet well-loved by many. Set in the royal court of ancient India, it tells a story of eternal love, mystery, fate, vengeance and justice.

This dance was presented at CBA’s 2nd Year End Performance in 2014. Performed by our Intermediate Foundation – Advanced students, the excerpts include two items and a coda, choreographed to La Bayadère music.

Thank you to Ms Xia and Ms Zhou for choreographing and rehearsing these items!

CBA Repertoire Series #10: When The Wind Blows

“When the Wind Blows” is a contemporary piece created for our Intermediate and Advanced students.

This item has won:

Overall Champion at GTB Regionals Teen Groups (Gala Championships)

CBA Repertoire Series #9: Coda – La Esmeralda

In 2017, we presented excerpts from La Esmeralda for the second half of CBA’s Year End Performance.

4 different dances were performed: a light and fun village dance for our Grade 4-5 students, a group dance choreographed to the music of Diana that included challenging pointe work for our Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate students, an upbeat Tambourine dance for our Advanced students, and a technically demanding Pas de Six for our Elite students.

Today, we are sharing the coda of the item with everyone, and hope you will enjoy it.

Thank you Ms Xia, Ms Ma and Mrs Lee for the joint effort in rehearsing this item! ❤️

CBA Repertoire Series #8: Heal The World

“Heal The World” 🌏 is a lyrical dance item performed at our 2019 CBA Performance.

Characterised by fluid and expressive movements, lyrical dance is a new genre that many of the performers were trying for the 1st time! Through their movements, they also had to learn to express a range of emotions and bring out the message behind the song’s lyrics.

Comprising a mix of levels from Grade 4 to Intermediate, the performers had a great time exploring this new dance style together with Ms Joan Wang, who choreographed and rehearsed the item.

Thank you Ms Joan for the beautiful choreography! ❤️

CBA Repertoire Series #7: Moments of Friendship

“Moments of Friendship” is a contemporary dance item performed by our Intermediate-Advanced 2 students at 2019 CBA Performance. This item also won 4th Prize at Get The Beat 2019 Contemporary Group (Open Age) category!

Dance is often used as a tool to express emotions and tell a story of human experience, and this piece does that through its powerful movements and visually impactful choreography.

Thank you to Mr Andy Cai for choreographing this dance piece and for guiding the girls throughout this journey!

CBA Repertoire Series #6: Spanish Dance

“Spanish Dance” is performed by students from our Intermediate and Advanced classes. Choreographed and rehearsed by Ms Xia Haiying, it won 1st Prize at Get The Beat 2019 for the Open Age Classical Group category, and was also performed at the 2019 CBA Performance!

This group of students have grown up with CBA over the past years. With increasing demand on their academic load, we commend our students for keeping spirited while they balance their dancing with studies.

They have grown so much as dancers, as individuals and as groups of friends supporting one another. Thank you for all the time and dedication you have given us ❤️

CBA Repertoire Series #5: Dance Like Your Daddy

“Dance Like Your Daddy” is a fun, sassy Jazz item performed by our Grade 2 and 3 Jazz students! 👯

Over the past couple of years, CBA has offered Contemp and Jazz alongside our Ballet training. More and more of our students have started to pick up multiple dance genres, challenging themselves to be stronger and more versatile dancers! 💪

Choreographed by Ms Charmaine Tay, this item won 3rd prize at Get The Beat 2019 (10&U Group Jazz) and CSTD Singapore Regional Competition 2019 (11&U Group Jazz). 🏆 It was an achievement for the girls as many of them had only one year of Jazz training at the time.

CBA Repertoire Series #4: Waves of Blue

Dance with the waves and let your dreams fly! 🌊🌈

“Waves of Blue” is a classical ballet piece choreographed by Ms Ma Yu.
This item won 2nd prize at Get The Beat 2019 for the 12&U Group Classical category! 👏

It was also performed at CBA’s 2019 Performance by our Grade 5 and Intermediate Foundation students. ❤️

CBA Repertoire Series #3: Enchanted Chimes

“Enchanted Chimes” was our Primary and Grade 1 students’ first dance competition, also the 1st time performing on stage for many of them.

They have done a great job, achieving:

1st for the 8 & under group category
Top 5 for the Petite Group Championship against the winners of other dance genres

Their hard work shines through their happy, glowing faces and gleaming bells!

CBA Repertoire Series #2: Cattitude

 “Meow, meow, meow……..”
Performed by our Pre-Primary and Primary ballet students, “Cattitude” is a dance piece sure to warm your hearts and make you go ‘Awww…’ 🐱😍

This piece was jointly choreographed and rehearsed by Ms Yarra Ileto and Ms Shihoko Yonai as part of CBA’s 2017 Year End Performance! 🐈

CBA Repertoire Series #1: Tempestuous

Stay tuned ❤️ We will be sharing our past dance performance and competition items over the next few weeks!

Today we will be sharing one of our earliest contemporary group dances: “Tempestuous” choreographed by Ms Liu Xiao Mi in 2015.

It was CBA’s first contemporary dance item to be sent for competition. That year, it won 2nd prize 🏅 at the 2015 CSTD Singapore Regional Competition!

It was also performed at CBA’s Year End Performance in 2015.
